In Patagonia, a partnership between WCS Argentina and Wildlife Friendly is encouraging regenerative livestock management, improved grazing practices, human–wildlife coexistence measures such as predator-deterrence systems, and innovative incentive structures that align conservation, carbon outcomes and market demand. The project, supported by the Regenerative Fund for Nature, highlights how complementary expertise, from conservation science to independent certification and innovative markets, can strengthen nature-positive fiber production while supporting biodiversity conservation across more than 300,000 hectares.

About Wildlife Friendly®

Wildlife Friendly® supports enterprises that conserve wildlife and habitats through verified production practices that meet its rigorous Certified Wildlife Friendly® standards. Wildlife Friendly® works globally in more than 25 countries across landscapes home to threatened and endangered species. Wildlife Friendly Fibers recognizes producers who conserve wildlife and the ecosystems upon which natural fibers depend.

About WCS

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) harnesses the power of four zoos and an aquarium in New York City and a global conservation program to protect wildlife and wild places. The WCS Global Conservation Program is the world’s largest and longest-running field conservation program, partnering with Indigenous Peoples, local communities, governments, and other NGOs.

WCS Argentina works with livestock producers in Patagonia to develop regenerative management techniques and Wildlife Friendly® practices, favoring climate resilience, grassland and soil restoration, and coexistence between wildlife and natural fiber production. In recognition of the important efforts made by rural workers, WCS endorses the Wildlife Friendly® certification of the natural fibers they produce in Patagonia.

From sheep and guanaco in Patagonia to mohair, alpaca, vicuña, wild silk, and raffia around the world, every fiber tells a story of coexistence between people and nature. Through certification, market recognition, and responsible sourcing, we help to transform conservation into economic opportunity for communities, businesses, and brands.
